Mood:
So I was doing some housework the other day and I had the TV on. I wasn’t paying much attention to the show that was airing as I was caught up in my cleaning duties. So as I continued cleaning something on the television show suddenly caught my attention. Now I am a bit fuzzy about all the details, but apparently, some girl has agreed to auction off her virginity in order to pay for college or something like that.
Now as the anchors discussed the topic they stated that one of the bids was about 3 million dollars or such. Again all the details are a bit fuzzy because I did not see the whole segment. But I did see enough where it sort of got me thinking about the very act of auctioning off your body for cash, not that I am considering doing this.
But I did begin thinking about if it were something I would do, at least for 3 million dollars. Now my first though was how different is this than prostitution? I mean a hooker may only make peanuts compared to the sum of 3 million. But who is to say that the amount of money in which you earn makes it any different? Ultimately you are selling your body and receiving cash for it.
On the other hand 3 million dollars is an awful lot of money. Let’s face it. We all dream about hitting the lotto and what we would do with all that money. Now, I am not even sure that you would need a college education after being paid that amount of money. You and your future family could basically retire and be set for the rest of your life.
Then the third thought that popped into my head was that I feel bad for the poor sap that feels that they have to pay someone 3 million dollars to take their virginity. This is beginning to smell a lot like some future reality series. Or at least the participating parties will surely get lots of recognition for going through with this act. Some people just want to be popular at any expense.
But I guess the main question that needs to be answered is if it is worth it in the long run. Overall in the eyes of society, the guy will receive a public pat on the back yet the woman will always be scorned and labeled as the girl who sold herself for 3 million dollars. I wonder how her future husband and family would deal with the fact that she agreed to go through with something like that.
I guess overall, I feel that there is nothing wrong with it. You see, I feel that we as human beings are the ones who create the feelings of guilt and shame in such an act. After all, chances are the person that you are currently with has been with other partners before they hooked up with you. And unless you are an extremely jealous person, it doesn’t matter much to you and you don’t love them any less for it.
If this woman slept with this guy and he bought her a 3 million-dollar engagement ring, would that make it any different? But what about love some may ask? Well the fact of the matter is that we have all probably at one time or another slept with a person or two that we really were not in love with. Hell I know plenty of people who are quick pull down their pants for free or for nothing.
So you see, it is my belief that none of this would make any difference except for the fact that it has become public information. Sex is a natural thing for humans and the fact that someone is reaping a reward for it, does not make it bad or wrong except in our eyes.
